Hi all, hoping you can guide a fairly new homeowner with a pipe issue. See image link above.
There is a gate valve to my water heater that has some white, powdery, salt buildup coming out of the valve itself. Why does this happen? Is it problematic?
Several months ago (when I moved in), I found similar buildup at several pipe fittings. I assumed the flux hadn’t been removed and cleaned it all up. Three months later all the fittings are still clean but the salt is back at this valve only.
I assume this normally happens because the flux isn’t properly cleaned, but I don’t think there would be any flux or solder inside the seams of the valve.
If it is a problem it would be an excuse to switch to a ball valve.
