Deck Post Rot – How should I proceed? : HomeImprovement

Hi — I have a deck from 1993 that is showing some rot at the bottom of the posts. I’ve started working to make sure water doesn’t sit around the posts, but there’s only so much I can do because a slate patio wraps around the posts.

Does anyone have advice for what I should apply to the posts to help slow the rot? Some options seem to be simple deck sealer, versus an epoxy like “Rot Terminator”, versus something like road tar. Any advice would be appreciated. If I apply something, I figure it’s to the above-ground portion only?

How bad does this look to you all? Should it last another 10 years in Maryland? I’d like to replace the floor of the deck myself and am trying to figure if it’s a waste of effort.
