Dryer vent: does it need an elbow?

I've been getting a ton of dust in only the laundry room. I took a peak at the old duct I had and it was all bent to hell. I ordered a new one on Amazon and it installed it. I notice at the elbow that some amount of air comes out of it. Is that normal?

I have plenty of the new duct available to attach directly to the vent pipe. I just wasn't sure if I needed an elbow.

Side question, is it okay to have extra duct condensed or should I have it fully expanded and draped behind the dryer? I have maybe an extra foot or so.

Picture below of elbow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
