How to fix drywall corner with no drywall behind it? : HomeImprovement

I rewired my house and had to drill a bunch of holes. I figured if I was gonna fix those holes, I’d fix the nail pops too. I figured if I was going to fix the nail pops, I was going to fix the bubbles.

So the problem: an outside corner popped out in my bathroom. I thought I was just going to have to throw in a a few screws and mud, but I found out that there is nothing for the screws to grab on to (thanks former owner). Can I just coat this thing with hot mud/fill behind with hot mud, and float it? Do I need to cut the whole damn corner out, hot mud, and then reattach the corner, then hot mud again?
