Hi all, I live in timber house built on expansive clay. It’s important to keep water away from the house to minimize movement. This is all complicated by the backyard being slightly higher than the front, so water tends to move towards the house.
I’m about to start building a decked area around the back of the house. I was initially thinking of putting an angled concrete slab under the deck to route the water to the grassed area of the yard. I’m sure this solution will work (at least until the clay deforms the slab) but it seems like overkill.
Anyone got any bright ideas? My other thought is to raise the area with gravel and a plastic membrane. Once the deck is on it’ll never see action…
The decked area will cover all the soil shown in this pic: https://imgur.com/a/49GcGO8
