Plaster Walls Repair Project : HomeImprovement

My bedroom has plaster walls which have developed the expected cracks that come with time, settling, and so on. I’ve got a good understanding of how to take on such a project – widen the crack, vacuum out the dust, apply joint compound/tape/more compound, sand gently, etc. – but I’ve got a few areas that is like to review.

There’s one spot in particular where I’ll need to remove a large portion of plaster, rather than just widen a crack. It looks like this, and here’s a closer look. Does the same joint compound/tape process apply for larger areas? Or is there something different I should do?

Also, any pointers for tackling corner areas like these? It looks like there’s some sort of right-angle tape bracing which has started to peel away and might need to be handled differently.

Thanks in advance!
