Radiant Barrier in attic apartment : HomeImprovement

I live in an a 1930’s attic apartment in Southern California and during the summer the temperature can reach triple-digits. The sun beats down on the cathedral ceiling that I’m pretty sure has no insulation at all. I have been able to cool some of the rooms down with combinations of window/portable AC units and fans. In my office, however, I am not able to use an air conditioner since there is a single 15-amp circuit that it shares with the bathroom and the kitchen (again, old apartment).

Do you think installing single-sided radiant barrier foil (with the OK from my landlord) would help cool the room down.

Something like this product

I can attach it to the exposed rafters and leave an air gap as recommended. Do you think there would be a significant improvement? I know cosmetically it won’t look great, but I’m pretty desperate at this point.
