Remove or cover laminate kitchen floors? : HomeImprovement

I had grand plans to renovate our kitchen but it’s looking like it might not happen at full scale this year (expecting third baby this summer and it’s been impossible to find a contractor that could start soon). I would like to do a few affordable updates as weekend projects in the next few months.

These laminate (maybe a roll of vinyl are really old and ugly and damaged) my long term plan was going to be to remove them and see if there’s the old hardwood under them and refinish that but I don’t think I could do that myself quickly.

Could I put on stick on thin vinyl tiles over this for a quick project or would it make it too thick?

Also, it runs into our mudroom and I don’t want to to deal with replacing the flooring in there (and there wouldn’t be hardwood.
