Many of the windows in our house seem to have a window opening that is too small to let us remove the screen. In one window, the screen had actually been broken by a previous homeowner; presumably when they tried too hard to remove it! We’d like to replace that screen.
This strip down the opening side of many of our windows is what makes the openings too small:
It looks like it may be aftermarket rather than a core part of the frame, but so far we haven’t been able to just pop it off like I hoped. A couple of our windows DON’T have this extra strip:
I’m guessing the strips may be intended to stop drafts, or something? Anyone know what they are, or have any tips for safely removing them without damaging the window frame? Thanks!
