Hi everyone, we are at the stage of our kitchen renos where it’s time to tile the floor.
I was hoping to just tile over the old subfloor that was previously used but it’s a bit of a horror-show. There are a couple of hvac runs that were put in that we had to tear up sections of the floor for. There are some pretty rough sections that may need filler as well as a tonne of nails that were used for the metal mesh that the previous tile was set on.
It’s looking more and more like a job for a professional but I was wondering if people think it’s worth the trouble cleaning up and levelling the surface or if it would just be worth it to slap some 3/8 plywood over top of and use that as the subfloor.
By the way we are using a decoupling membrane as the base.
I’ve attached a few photos to give you a sense of what it looks like.
