I had a tree service company come by today to trim branches, and their big truck hit and ripped out this copper pipe. We just bought the house two months ago, and I have no idea what it was for. Honestly, the yard looks a lot better with it gone, but I’m worried it might be important? It doesn’t look like it was broken off (unless maybe it was a pretty clean break?), and it clearly wasn’t venting anything as it is not open on the top.
The house was built in 1926, remodeled sometime in the 40s or 50s I think. It DID have an oil boiler system, but now is all electric HVAC and water heater, etc. From the looks of it, it was probably only six inches or so in the ground to begin with, but I can’t seem to find what it was attached to, either (if anything). I haven’t taken a shovel out there because I don’t even know what I’d be looking for, but I didn’t feel much with my hands when digging around.
Any help on what this could possibly be?
