What’s the best way to patch this hole in my basement’s concrete wall? : HomeImprovement

I recently bought a 115 year old house, and in the basement, there’s a roughly 4″ x 6″ hole in this concrete “block” wall. The weird thing is that the block appears hollow as far as i can see. The previous owner doesn’t know how it happened, but I’m assuming it’s from the house settling over time.

Regardless, I’d like to patch it up if possible – I’m pretty sure ants are coming in from there somewhere. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to do this? I’m assuming there’s some way to secure some heavy duty wire mesh over it and then put some quikcrete over that.
